Weekend Mountain SUP Adventure

A weekend adventure exploring Asheville, NC and surrounding area via stand up paddleboard!  We’ll develop and refine our paddling skills on flatwater and moving water as we meander through the River Arts District and the Biltmore sections of the French Broad River. SUP yoga gives us an opportunity to connect with nature and take a pause from our busy lives to remember what is important. Fun, adventurous and empowering – the water trails of the Blue Ridge Mountains await you!

All-levels welcome, no prior experience necessary. World class instruction and coaching from renowned paddler and coach, Anna Levesque.

Flatwater and Skills Building

Saturday morning we’ll head to a flatwater section of the French Broad or Lake Julian for an intro to SUP and a SUP yoga class. Even if you havesome SUP experience this intro will provide you with deeper knowledge and tools to elevate your paddling and your fun! We’ll start by talking about equipment, move to an overview of basic stroke technique on land and then head out on the water. Once we launch and stand up, we’ll review stroke technique including forward stroke, sweep strokes, stopping and side draw. We’ll also dive into maneuvers including rail to rail stability, walking around the board and modified stance. We’ll finish our morning with a SUP yoga class for relaxation and processing. After this session you’ll have increased confidence and balance on the board.

We’ll pause to enjoy a fresh bagged lunch by the water provided by our local, organic food market.

Intro to River SUP

stand up paddleboarding french broad riverThis afternoon we take our skills to some moving water on the French Broad by running a section from Hominy Creek park tothe River Arts District. You’ll get a lesson and safety briefing on the features of moving water and how to work with them (or avoid them) for effortless paddling in current. Once we deepen our understanding of current it’s time to experience the river by launching and working our skills as we travel down the river and enjoy the scenery! This is a 4 mile trip.

After the river we’ll enjoy a celebratory beverage at a riverside brewery!

Full Day on the River!

stand up paddleboarding in front of biltmore house french broadToday we explore the Biltmore Section of the French Broad! This is a 7 mile stretch that passes by the famous Biltmore Estate. We’ll continue to work on skills with the potential of learning new ones including nose draws, sculling draws, surf stance and pivot turns. We’ll also start to talk about eddy turns, peel-outs and ferries. This is the most scenic stretch of the French Broad near Asheville, not only due to the natural beauty of the river, but also because of the lovely views we get of the Biltmore House as we float past. We’ll find a sweet spot to stop and enjoy lunch on the river. 

To end the day we’ll share what we learned, accomplished and overcame with our new community of SUP sisters.

Cost: $375.00

Includes all gear (board, paddle, leash and pfd), transport of gear, lunch, guiding, instruction and SUP yoga.

Cancelation Policy: A minimum of a 50%  deposit is required to confirm your reservation. If you cancel your reservation within 30 days of the start date of the program your deposit is non-refundable. We extend credit for up to a year from the program start date. If you cancel prior to 30 days before the program start you deposit is refundable minus a $75 booking fee. The balance is due 30 days from the start of the program.

*Note that we do not cancel programs due to rain. These are rain or shine programs! Anna will give you guidance on how to dress appropriately for a rainy day.
