Yukon Trip Report and Video

This past July Mary-Jane and Vernon Oliver invited me up to Whitehorse in the Yukon to teach for their local kayak club. Whitehorse has a really friendly paddling community that boasts some fantastic paddlers, including kids in the River Raiders program. While I was there I worked with several of the River Raiders, including three girls, who are very talented and enthusiastic about paddling. These kids are also very driven and resourceful. They recently raised enough money to build themselves a big air ramp! The Yukon River, which reminds me of the Ottawa, runs right through Whitehorse. In fact, the

Cindy's Trip to Chile

I just returned from Argentina/Chile. I have been to Chile four times now and keep feeling the call to return. I used to go straight to the Rio Futaleaufu and spend my days floating down the big wave trains the Fu boats. (I’m from the Ottawa – I’m used to wide deep rivers). But this trip, I wanted to see more of Chile and venture into Argentina. We flew into Buenos Aires – the Paris of South America. I’m not one for cities, but this was amazing. Tango shows are everywhere in old beautiful theatres. Great wine, and amazing restaurants.

Grand Canyon Trip 2005

What a trip! It’s difficult to put the experience into words. The Canyon isn’t just a pretty backdrop, it’s an inspiring magnificence that surrounds you day and night. The landscape is humbling and generates a sense deep within that there is something much greater than us at work in the world. It’s also very quiet in the Canyon and there are no outside distractions such as work, cell phones or TVs which means that you have no choice but to spend time with yourself. To truly appreciate the trip you must let go of everything that you leave behind at

Filming of Whitewater Kayaking Basics for Women in Mexico

Last month I spent an amazing five weeks in Mexico, my favorite Latin American country. Most of my time was spent in a small village called Jalcomulco situated in the state of Veracruz on the Antigua river Not only is the town located in an enchanting place, right on the river, but the community is very friendly and welcoming. It’s like a second home to me where I get to catch up with good friends, eat delicious authentic Mexican food, enjoy the sun, the slower pace of life and paddle some great whitewater. The first few weeks of the trip

Slave River Trip Report

If you are under the impression that the Slave river is for hardcore paddlers only, think again! Although the Slave has a BIG reputation, the river has a gentler, less intimidating side as well. When I traveled to the Northwest Territories to paddle the Slave this past August, I was pleasantly surprised by the remarkable experiences the area and the river have to offer! Flying into Fort Smith from Edmonton, it’s hard to miss the rapids of the Slave river. We were desperately trying to prop ourselves up to better see the powerful river from our tiny plane windows. White Nile Paddling and Volunteer Trip Report

I was really nervous about going to Africa. Not only had I heard tales of gigantic whitewater, crocodiles, hippos, poisonous snakes, spiders and malaria from paddlers, but there is also the mass media that features stories of serious illnesses, war, poverty and violence in Africa. Africa was unknown territory to me, and I was arriving a few days earlier than the rest of the group which made me even more nervous. While stepping off the plane in Entebbe, Uganda, I found myself asking: “Am I crazy?” The tropical heat was an indication that I wasn’t. When I left Montreal it
