Ladies Southeast Paddling Series Kickoff Success!

Ladies Southeast Paddling Series Kickoff Success!

Saturday was one of those perfect days–perfect weather, great water levels in the Tuck Gorge, and an IMG_1976outstanding group of women who rallied to enjoy the day in Shannon’s honor. 21 0f us took over the Tuck Gorge, and, later, the back balcony of Endless River Adventures for our kickoff party. Laughter, smiles, sweet moves in the river, and delicious snacks abounded. Everyone styled the river, and donated generously to the Shannon Christy Memorial Fund. We raised a total of $445! Thank you, ladies, this is an amazing start! Our goal is to raise $8000 for the Shannon Christy Memorial Fund this year. Via the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, these funds will ultimately empower and support women through various charities. We greatly appreciate your support of women in the community, and your excitement to get out there and create community through the wonderful sport of kayaking, as Shannon was so passionate about.

We would like to extend huge thank you’s to our sponsors, who donated some awesome schwag for the day raffle–remember that you are automatically entered into the day raffle by attending the event. Fun items from Werner, Dagger, Kokatat, and SYOTR were doled out, including the world’s most adorable poncho from SYOTR. Ladies also purchased raffle tickets to increase their chances of winning one of the big prizes, including a Dagger kayak, Werner paddle, and a trip to Ecuador from Girls at Play and Endless River Adventures. Winners will be drawn and prizes claimed after the last event of the series. Additionally, thank you to Juliet and Endless River Adventures for hosting an amazing party.

We were excited to break out the new Girls at Play t-shirts for 2016! Make sure to pick one up at the next event if you haven’t already, as a portion of each t-shirt sale also goes into the Shannon Christy Memorial Fund.

We are looking forward to spending the rest of the summer on the river with you ladies! Our next event, FB9, is already less than a week away. Mark your calendars with the upcoming events:

July 6 Nantahala River during Carolina Canoe Club WOR
