Southeast Ladies Paddling Series: FB9

Southeast Ladies Paddling Series: FB9

After Saturday’s lovely run of the French Broad section 9, we are officially more than halfway done with the Ladies Southeast Paddling Series for 2015! We have completed 4 installments out of 7–how time flies when you’re having fun! A huge thank you to the 17 ladies who joined us on FB9, several of which completed their personal first descents of the section. Congrats, ladies, you all rocked it! Special mention goes to Anna Sprout, this week’s recipient of the Werner goal medal/bottle opener. Anna tirelessly worked the river, going after some awesome peel-outs and ultimately achieving her first combat roll! Congrats Anna!IMG_0884

Thank you again to our sponsors, Dagger, Werner and Kokatat, for donating the items that keep our raffle ticket sales rolling. Some fun schwag was won in the day raffle, and contenders for the Dagger boat, Werner paddle and Kokatat dry top, which will be raffled off at the end of the series, helped to raise $170 for the Shannon Christy Memorial Fund! This brings the grand total to $1,150. We know that Shannon would be pumped at the spirit of community that flourishes at the series events. We also really look forward to realizing the vision of using the SCMF to bring the sport of whitewater kayaking to underserved women and girls. Thank you for all of your support!

We are looking forward to the next event on the Pigeon, which will take place this upcoming Saturday, July 25. The schedule for the remaining events is as follows:

July 25 – Pigeon River – Emily Yuratovac, Angela Como and Katie Dean leading

August 1 – Ocoee River – Anna Levesque, Emily Shanblatt and Angela Como leading

September 18 – Lower Gauley River – Laura Farrell, Adriene Levknecht, Maria Noakes leading

You can also check out the events on Facebook. Here are some photos of the FB9 event. I look forward to seeing you on the river!
