Anna will be traveling to Knoxville and Chattanooga, TN to give talks for the CHOTA and TVCCP canoe clubs on Stretching for Paddling Longevity. In this fun and informative talk, Anna teaches you how to stretch and strengthen your body for optimum paddling longevity. Anna has been paddling, competing in and instructing whitewater kayaking for over 15 years in over 12 countries around the world. During this time she has come to realize that paddling can be hard on the body, especially if paddlers don’t take the time to stretch the muscles that they over-use and strengthen the muscles that they under-use. You don’t have to paddle difficult water to strain your body. In fact, just the way we sit in our kayaks (recreational, touring or whitewater) and paddle can lead to stiffness, reduced range of motion and even injury in our shoulders, hips and back.
To keep our bodies healthy, remain comfortable in our boats and paddle well into our golden years, it’s important to learn about and take care of the major muscle groups used during paddling. Have you ever heard of the illiopsoas? If not that’s ok because you’ll know all about it by the end of Anna’s talk. You’ll leave with knowledge and stretches that will help your body feel comfortable, strong and supple for many years to come in and out of your boat. This talk is important for paddlers or all ages and abilities.
