The 6 Most Important Habits for Fall Health

Have you ever wondered why you’re more susceptible to getting sick during fall season?

According to Ayurveda, variability, especially in the weather is the biggest culprit. Not only can the ups and downs in temperature negatively impact your body, but it can also cause higher levels of anxiety and stress in your mind.

The key to counteracting the mobile/variable quality of Vata Dosha (Air/Ether) and staying healthy in fall season is routine. Nothing steadies the mind and body like doing certain activities around the same time every day. Most importantly, you want a routine filled with healthy habits designed to support your health and wellbeing.

Unfortunately most people set their routines based on their work schedule without considering whether their habits support their health.

There’s a difference between surviving your work week and having a healthy habit routine based on the 24 hour light/dark cycle that sets you up to thrive each day, even when life throws challenges your way.

Here are the 6 parts to a healthy daily routine that will bring steadiness to your mind and body, and help keep you healthy this fall:
  1. Turn off all screens by 9 p.m. and lights out by 10 p.m.
  2. Wake up between 6 and 7 a.m.
  3. Exercise/mindful movement in the morning.
  4. Eat breakfast no later than 9 a.m.
  5. Schedule lunch between noon and 2 p.m.
  6. Eat dinner no later than 7 p.m.

When you go to bed, wake up, exercise and eat at the same times every day you bring a lot of steadiness and grounding to your life. This helps the brain settle and know what to expect which, in turn, reduces stress and anxiety.

These eating times are considered optimal for digestion and blood sugar regulation not just by Ayurveda, but also by the study of chronobiology and circadian rhythm.

I’m confident that if you incorporate these routines into your life for a few weeks you’ll feel healthy and vibrant all season long.

Try it and see. You have nothing to lose and great healthy habits to gain!
