Yoga for Kayaking Weekend Workshop in Asheville, NC
This weekend intensive is designed to bring heightened awareness to our paddling muscles for injury prevention, pain reduction, increased comfort and better paddling performance. We’ll learn how to stretch the muscles that we over-use and strengthen the muscles that we under-use in kayaking for better overall alignment on and off the water. Each session will be spent practicing yoga as well as learning the anatomy and body mechanics of paddling and alignment. At the end of the weekend you’ll come away with an in-depth knowledge of paddling anatomy, how you can prevent common paddling injuries, reduce pain and be familiar with yoga poses that you can practice at home. Breathing techniques to reduce nerves and anxiety on the river will also be part of this life and paddling enhancing weekend. This workshop is open to both men and women. All levels – no previous yoga experience necessary.
9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Feet, knees and hips
2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Shoulders and neck
Participants can do an evening paddle on Section 9 of the French Broad or at the Ledges Park on the French Broad.
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Core strengthening and balance
Participants will have the afternoon off to go paddle before going home!
