Yoga for Paddling

“Anna’s teaching style is lovely, clear, nurturing and easy to follow.  Her students are blessed to receive such comprehensive yoga teaching, from the physical, mental and spiritual levels.” – Stephanie Keach, E-RYT 500 and Director of the Asheville Yoga Center.

“Anna did a great job selecting poses that were necessary for paddlers and for generally active people. Besides being relaxing and enjoyable, each class was educational and informative. Anna is a really great instructor, she is easy to understand and follow and she is sweet and attentive to all the participants. I highly recommend this class to anyone who feels they should treat their body better.” — Yonton Mehler, Astral Buoyancy, Asheville, NC

“I own a boat that has never been very comfortable for me to sit in.  In just a short while of sitting in it, my legs would fall asleep.  But after two weeks of doing the (Anna and Joe’s) routines, this sleepy-leg syndrome was greatly reduced.” – California Kayaker Magazine

Yoga for Paddling Workshops with Anna Levesque

These workshops are designed to bring heightened awareness to our paddling muscles for injury prevention, pain reduction, 537570_10151338037673061_2072653031_nincreased comfort and better paddling performance. Based on the information written in her recently published book Yoga for Paddling, Anna will guide you on how to stretch the muscles that we over-use and strengthen the muscles that we under-use in paddling (regardless of whether you paddle a kayak, canoe or SUP).  Each session will be spent practicing yoga as well as learning the anatomy and body mechanics of paddling and alignment.

In the afternoon we’ll head to a very friendly section of the French Broad River through Asheville where we can integrate what we learn in yoga class into our paddling skills.

At the end of the workshop you’ll have an in-depth knowledge of paddling anatomy, how you can prevent common paddling injuries, reduce pain and be familiar with yoga poses that you can practice at home. Stress management techniques that you can use on and off the water will also be part of the workshop.  This workshop is open to both men and women.  All levels – no previous yoga experience necessary. Please come as you are!!

There are 2 day options and 1 day options available for this workshop. The difference is that the 1-day option will be condensed and less thorough, but still valuable for those who have less time available or who want to check out what Yoga for Paddling is all about without a 2-day time commitment.

This section is friendly for all crafts (kayak, canoe, SUP AND all levels). The purpose of the paddle is not necessarily to work on paddling skill (but we will do some of that), but to bring more awareness to the alignment of our bodies when we paddle with the goal of reducing the risk of injury and finding comfort in our posture and paddling positions. The easy and friendly nature of this particular section of river is very conducive to building awareness.
